Lemongrass is one of the more well know members of the Cymbopogon family; a species of grass which contains approximately 55 other grasses, mostly originating in tropical climates such as Asia.
Another familiar name from this family of grasses is Citronella, which is also very popular in the aromatherapy world.
Lemongrass is a fast growing grass which can reach up to 1.5 meters in height and is widely cultivated in Asia, as it is a popular herb for use in cooking.
As well as being a popular food flavoring / herb, Lemongrass is also used in teas, insecticide products and household products, such as detergents / cleaning products.
Lemongrass is a popular oil to treat illnesses in Aromatherapy and has also been used in traditional Indian and Chinese medicine to treat ailments such as fever and infectious illness.
Uses of Lemongrass Essential Oil
Lemongrass essential oil has a fresh, earthy, sweet-lemony, citrus aroma which is uplifting / invigorating and has great effects on the mind and body.

Suggested Uses of Lemongrass Essential Oil
Lemongrass essential oil can give clarity and focus to the mind. If you need help with concentration, try burning a few drops of lemongrass in an oil burner or lamp ring. This works wonderfully in the home office as it will invigorate and give you clarity of thought, as well as refreshing and brightening the whole room.
Lemongrass is a good oil to relieve tiredness in legs and feet. For a refreshing foot spa, add a few drops of Lemongrass essential oil to a warm bowl of water and soak the feet.
Lemongrass can be used in massage oils to relieve stress and help with depression. Add a few drops of the essential oil to your chosen carrier / base oil (Grapeseed or Sweet Almond are good base oils for massage) and massage onto the skin for a refreshing and soothing massage. This massage oil will also help with muscular aches and pains.
Lemongrass has excellent insect repellent properties. Burn 5-6 drops of the essential oil in an oil burner or diffuser to keep those pesky bugs at bay. Lemongrass is a great oil to repel many kinds of insects including fleas, ticks and lice.
Lemongrass has deodorizing and disinfectant properties, which make it a good oil for general household cleaning. Add a couple of drops of the essential oil to water and use to clean the home.
Lemongrass essential oil blends well with bergamot, orange, lime, geranium, lavender, rosewood, eucalyptus, juniper, neroli, rosemary, tea tree, palmarosa, pine and jasmine essential oil.
