Aromatherapy and the use of essential oil have been used for centuries for their healing properties. They help balance the body and mind creating a spiritual well-being. There are many different ways in which to use essential oils and most are very simple to do. Below I have listed some ways in which aromatherapy can be used to benefit your health and well-being in every day life.

Massage - This is where essential oils are added to a base oil and massaged in to the body. Massage is one of the most pleasurable uses of essential oils as it allows the oils to be absorbed more quickly into the body and the warmth the fiction causes when rubbing the oil on the skin, enhances the aroma of the oils creating great therapeutic benefits.

Vaporisers - This is when you use an oil burner to heat the oils to release the aromatic perfume of the essential oils. Oil burners have a base where a tea light candle is placed and small concaved top where the water and a few drops of oil are placed. The candle is lit and the water will gentle begin to warm and fill your room with your favourite fragrance.

Aromatherapy Baths - This is when a few drops of your favourite essential oils are added to a warm relaxing bath. The steam from the bath will help diffuse the oils into the air so you can gain the full benefits of the oils and the warmth of water helps to make the skin soft, helping the oils to be absorbed.

Footbaths - Footbaths are a great way to revive tired aching feet. Run some warm water in to a basin or a foot spa and add an oil to suit your needs, for example Peppermint or Tea Tree to refresh and deodorise your feet. Once this is done sit back, relax and inhale the aromas of the oils and watch your aches fade away.

Inhalation - This is when you add a few drops of essential oil to a bowl of hot boiled water and place a towel over your head, lean over the bowl and inhale. This is a good one to try if you have a cold; add Eucalyptus essential oil to help relieve a head cold.

Air Freshener - You can make your very own air freshener by mixing a few drops of your favourite essential oil to water or flower water. Put in a pump action spray dispenser and shake well with each use to get the full aroma.

These are just some of the many different ways in which you could use aromatherapy. I am sure you will find your own favourite ways of using aromatherapy and essential oils.
